I'm About To Pee In My Pants

Ooh ooh ooh ooh, only a few more sleeps till Kanye's 808's & Heartbreak is released. I've been shuffling around like I'm holding it in, trying not to think about dripping water. I'm a tad obsessed with him at the moment as I am whenever he releases a new album. I love the fact that with each album he pushes it further, his sound evolves and his lyrics are always, always so engaging.

This time round he's onto something again. He's singing. His voice is far from perfect but he's doing it anyway - don't you just love that? I do. Cause it doesn't matter and it works. It works! Here's Kanye performing Love Lockdown at the MTV EMAs. Usually my inner-automatic- highly-sensitive-cringe gage would pinch when someone does a shaky off key thing but not with Kanye. Actually my inner-automatic- highly-sensitive-cringegage wouldn't let up when that chick from the ting tings went off key at the same awards show. I don't know what it is about Kanye, he's like magic to me...

Or is it just me and love is tone deaf?

Anyway this brings me to what I was thinking about these times. I'm feeling the sense that there are no boundaries, or the lines have been pushed further and further back. A Black American President (whaaaaaaaaaaaat??? it still blows my mind), a rapper dressing like an indie nerd singing off key and everyone loves it, watching a real indie nerd dance to Lil Wayne at the OAF, friends that have been single for something like a decade finding incredible love (as mind blowing to me as a black president). Things are being ruffled up and I like it, I really really like it. It's makes me feel hopeful and that anything is possible. Cheetos but true.

Fashion wise I feel I can get away with anything (even cork snakeskin shoes, yes sisters, ya hearrrrrrd). I remember styling shoots and needing the hair to  be perfect, god forbid a wisp should be out of place, a retouching nightmare. But now everywhere, look...

I guess all this excites me so because I've always been one for keeping it reaaaal. In the sage words of Old Dirty Bastard "Oooh baby I like it raw, Oooh baby I like it raw". But I aint no fool, I know that presentation and balance count for everything, so don't go around like a mad crazy-haired woman looking like you've just escaped out of an asylum (as I often do). Trust me, it doesn't work.

Here have a look at my snakeskin cork shoes, one shoe is compliments of Gasha, the other of Elsie. Told you, no money, no problems, you can still have your corked snakeskin shoes and wear them too...

Photo by Gasha who should just give it all up and just do photography already.
